From the iconic Great Wall to the skyscrapers of Shanghai, China is filled with cultural gems and spectacular attractions. And now it’s easier than ever to explore this vast and beautiful country while teaching English abroad and helping to make a difference in people’s lives through education. TEFL International has partnered with Disney English to give you the opportunity of a lifetime – teaching English to young learners in China!

Disney English launched in October 2008 with the mission of teaching English to students throughout China. Since the doors to its first language center opened in Shanghai, the program has expanded by leaps and bounds and will have opened 32 centers in seven cities across China by this fall. Additional centers are also planned to open in the northern, eastern, and southern regions for a total of 55 established Disney English centers throughout China by October of 2012.

If you’ve always dreamed of teaching English abroad, then this expansive growth is an incredible opportunity to make that dream that you wish come true! TEFL International is currently accepting applications from candidates interested in the Special Disney Project and who wish to begin teaching English in China in the fall of 2011. Accepted candidates will pay just $200 to cover the cost of housing and teaching materials, and will begin TESOL certification courses, held in Ban Phe, Thailand, in June, July, August, and September 2011 before flying to China for paid training and a guaranteed 12 to 15 month ESL teaching contract.

Once you’re settled, you’ll teach English to students between the ages of 2 and 12, the vast majority of students being between 4 and 6 years of age, for 24 hours per week as part of a 40-hour work week. The curriculum you’ll use has been fully developed by a Disney Content/Curriculum team in cooperation with an advisory panel of 19 international educators and early childhood experts. Classroom lessons are high-energy and fun, built around an interactive whiteboard and incorporating stories, songs, games, group activities, and well-known Disney characters.

TEFL International and Disney English are currently looking for enthusiastic candidates to teach in locations throughout China. Our foreign language teaching staff works 40 hours per week with a maximum of 24 hours of actual teaching, which often includes up to 20 hours of work during traditional weekends. While teachers in China typically work on Saturdays and Sundays, they will receive two consecutive days off every week. In addition to 10 sick days per calendar year and 11 Chinese national holidays, teachers and trainers also accrue five days of paid vacation in their first year.

If you have a dynamic personality, an enthusiasm for foreign language education, and the flexibility to adapt to the demands of a quickly growing organization, then we’re looking for you! Many of our most successful candidates have backgrounds in drama or the performing arts, but anyone with tons of energy and interest in teaching abroad in China is encouraged to apply for participation in this remarkable program!

If you’re ready for a magical experience teaching overseas, then get ready for the adventure of a lifetime! Fill out the Special Disney Project application and in just a few short months, you could be teaching English in China – and immersing yourself in the country’s extraordinary sights, sounds, customs, and cultures.
